THOSE PRECIOUS YEARS A boy with an enquiring mind has nature's playground on his doorstep in the countryside by the sea. The story is set in 1960s Donegal (Ireland) during an era before colour television or mobile phones. These childhood adventures of Barry Byrne capture a gentle mood of innocence and create a vivid picture of a way of life that is long gone. There are the short cuts home from school, the adventures at the river and the sea, sleighing bellyflapper downhill, seeking the forbidden fruit in that special orchard, and other adventures. Ongoing there's fun and roguish antics during Barry Byrne's schooldays as he enters new a world of learning and challenges outside his family circle, where he makes new friends, and together they bring us into that youthful world of magic and discovery. In the school classroom Barry and his friends ease happily into school life with the school Mistress but in the Master's room this all changes. The teacher often appears angry, and Barry learns to keep his head down, but he too gets in hot water after an inadvertent slip of the tongue. However, this is all quickly forgotten when he looks into Brona Browne's eyes and a whole new world emerges.
