Malachy Sweeney, a native of Donegal Town (Ireland) is the author of three books, The Sands of Time, A Troubled Time and Those Precious Years. He has contributed short stories to Wild Atlantic Words which was published by Meas Writers. He is a founding member of Tirconaill Writers, and his writing is influenced by his sense of place, a love of the sea and his interest in canoeing, sailing, fishing and local history. In earlier years he worked in the construction industry in Ireland and England. After qualifying as a Post Primary Teacher, he taught in Dublin, at Shanganagh Castle, before returning Donegal Town to teach at the Abbey Vocational School. In later years he was a director of Donegal Community Chamber, and his nautical interest drew him to the Donegal Town Enterprise Scheme (Donegal Bay Waterbus), where he served as chairman for number of years. He is married to Goretti and lives beside the Donegal Estuary.
