Jimmy Crowley
Jimmy Crowley was born in Douglas, County Cork, into a home where music was a constant presence – his father was a tenor with a love of opera. He formed Stoker's Lodge in 1970, named after the gate lodge of the Stoker estate in Frankfield, near his boyhood home, and the band became one of Cork's most beloved folk acts. In 1982 he founded The Electric Band, whose reggae version of 'The Boys of Fairhill' went straight into the pop charts. Since the 1990s, Jimmy has toured extensively as a solo performer, at home and abroad. In 2014, he published Songs From The Beautiful City: Cork Urban Ballads, a landmark collection of Cork street songs with musical notation, lyrics and anecdotes.
