Yvonne Cassidy
I was born in 1974 and grew up in Dalkey, a Dublin suburb by the sea. I can't remember when I started writing, only that I was always making up stories and leaving them on bits of paper around the house for my parents to find. Later on in college, I used to talk about the novel that I was going to write ‘some day,' and for the longest time, ‘some day' meant ‘some other day,' definitely not today. It was only when I was turning thirty that I decided to put some actual time and effort into it. And so I convinced the company I worked for to give me three months off to make a start. I wrote what I thought at the time, was a first draft of a novel. It wasn't. It was nowhere near a first draft. But it was the germ of an idea that would evolve, to become my first novel, The Other Boy.
