Séamus Ó Tuama

Séamus Ó Tuama is a historian and educator with a deep commitment to the Irish language and Irish culture. His passion for local and national history was rooted in a childhood immersed in Irish songs and stories and deepened after the untimely passing of his father, Diarmuid Ó Tuama, a prominent figure in Belfast's Irish-language revival. In completing his father's unfinished manuscript – a history of Belfast from a native Irish perspective – Séamus has woven together family memoir and historical narrative in Béal Feirste: Belfast, his first book. He is Principal of Bunscoil Phobal Feirste, the North's first Irish-medium school, and holds qualifications in Celtic Studies, Education (M.Ed.), Science (M.Sc.), and the Professional Qualification for Headship. His work bridges personal heritage and community history, offering a ground-level perspective on Belfast's transformation over four generations.
