Seamus Cowman is professor emeritus at the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Having an early career in healthcare, Seamus, for many years, worked in university education and research in Ireland and overseas. Seamus is widely published in the academic press, and has been a regular contributor to daily papers on social and healthcare issues, most often related to intellectual disability. Seamus is a trustee and board member of INSPIRE, an All-island charity and social enterprise for disability. Seamus and his wife, Nenette, advocate for disability, which was inspired over nineteen years of caring for their physically and intellectually disabled daughter Natasha, until her death.
