Patricia McCarthy

Dr. Patricia McCarthy is an architectural historian whose research interests include 18th- and 19th-century Irish architecture, material culture and social history. Of particular interest is Irish domestic architecture in both town and country. In her forthcoming book, Life in the Country House in Georgian Ireland (Yale University Press, to be published in May 2016), the emphasis is on how owners and their families, together with an architect, arranged the interiors of their houses in ways that suited them, and/or in ways that were deemed to be fashionable at the time. Domestic architecture is, in this way, enlivened by the presence of families, their furniture, furnishings, paintings and their servants.
