Otto Rauchbauer

Date of Birth: 13 February 1938

Otto Rauchbauer (13 February 1938 - 3 October 2024) was born in Eisenstadt in Austria. He was a member of the English Department of the University of Vienna from 1965 to 2003. In 1993 he set up an archive in Drishane, Castletownshend, Co. Cork, the former house of Edith Somerville. A catalogue of the archive and a biographical sketch were subsequently published by the Irish Manuscripts Commission. He is author of Ancestral Voices and Diskurse und Bilder zum anglo-irischen Landssitz im 20 Jahrhundert. In addition to writing on several subjects, Rauchbauer was deeply involved in researching the role played in literature of large properties in Great Britian and Ireland. As a pensioner, he published a biography of Irish writer Shane Leslie, who was related to Winston Churchill. Source: Wikipedia
