Mary Morrissy

I am an award-winning Irish novelist (The Hennessy Award, Lannan Foundation Award) and short story writer, the author of three novels, Mother of Pearl, The Pretender and The Rising of Bella Casey, and a collection of short stories, A Lazy Eye. I have taught creative writing at university level in the US and Ireland for the past 15 years and I work as a freelance literary mentor. I currently teach on the MA in Creative Writing at University College Cork. I am also a superannuated hack, with 30 years’ experience as a journalist, having worked as a reporter/feature writer/sub-editor on three of Ireland’s national dailies. Having left the grind of daily journalism behind, I still review fiction for The Irish Times.

Irish Interest in based on one very simple idea: to bring the contents of any Irish bookshop to people everywhere, especially those outside Ireland who do not have the possibility of keeping abreast of new books published in Ireland. The Irish Interest web platform is purely a provider of information about new publications.
