Mark Mellett

Date of Birth: 4 November 1958

Mark Mellett (Vice Admiral, Rtd) was the first naval officer in the history of the Irish state to serve as Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces, having previously served as Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Service. He holds a Ph.D in Political Science from NUI Galway and is a distinguished graduate of the United States Naval War College and the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. He is a recipient of two Distinguished Service medals and was appointed a Commander of the Légion d’Honneur by the President of France. He is an Adjunct Professor at University College Cork and serves as Chair of the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) and Chair of Sage Advocacy, Ireland’s national independent advocacy service for older people.
