John E Mullee

Address: Houston, Texas.

John E. “Gene” Mullee was born in Dublin in 1942, during World War II. He grew up through the postwar recovery years, the stirrings of change in the 1950s, and the cultural revolution of the 1960s. At age twenty-two wanderlust compelled him to move to Germany, planning total immersion for one year. After four years in various countries, he had gained valuable skills such as boiling precision-timed eggs for guests in a Munich hotel, and actually getting paid for exploring the beautiful hills of Bavaria holding a survey rod. Tiring of job uncertainty, he returned to Ireland, enrolled in University College Dublin, and graduated a Bachelor of Engineering in 1972. Leaving again, he worked as a design engineer in many countries, some with highly distinctive cultures and landscapes. Along the way he became a US citizen, and kept a home base in Houston, Texas. He lives there now with his wife of forty years, Yvonne, close to his daughter, her husband, and two lively grandsons. His two other children caught the wanderlust bug and live in Holland. He started to write when he retired from engineering; there was no excuse for waiting any longer.
