Gerard Martin O'Brien
Gerard Martin O'Brien was born in Cork in 1953. He studied at NUI Galway, the University of Bologna and the University of Limerick. His interests focus on 19th and early 20th century Irish history and literature and has lectured on third level educational programmes in Ireland and United States. He has also worked on numerous publishing and heritage projects as well as writing two historical novels ‘A Kind of Innocence’ and ‘The Key is Turned’. A Kind of Innocence (2002) is a picaresque novel set in Cork in the 1960s. 'The Key is Turner' is set in Galway in 1919 and explores the different views and attitudes to nationalism as the war of Independents begins. His most recent publication is called 'Faeries, Felons and Fine Gentlemen' and is a history of 'The Glen' in Cork from 1700 to 1980. Source: Commons
