Elizabeth Shaw (4 May 1920 – 27 June 1992) was a Belfast-born Irish artist, illustrator, and author who achieved significant fame as a children's author in East Germany, writing and illustrating popular books such The Timid Little Rabbit (Der kleine Angsthase). She moved to East Berlin after the Second World War and lived and worked there for decades, becoming a prominent figure in German children's literature while remaining largely unknown in her native Ireland. Her work remains popular in Germany today, and a school in Berlin-Pankow is named after her. After her death her ashes were scattered in the Irish Sea. Source: Commons
