Ben Allen
Ben Allen was born in Ireland in 1954. He left Ireland when he was seventeen, at the height of the Northern Ireland conflict, to settle in France, where he eventually became an English teacher. Through the eyes of an Irish lad, is his first novel, and he is currently working on a sequel. He lives and works in Lyon. "Through the eyes of an Irish Lad, is my first book. I know that it has all the limitations of a first manuscript, but it’s still a good story with a message for today’s world. It’s not an autobiography, but I’m like Billy in many ways. I was born in Ulster in the height of the troubles and escaped to live in France when I was very young. Billy is gay, but the book is not only a story about a gay boy, it’s much wider than that, and I would like to promote it to a wider audience. It’s about friendship, tolerance, and faith and it tackles some of the questions that many people are asking today. Someone said to me recently that everyone has a book to write. Writing about Billy has released my book to the world and brought me a profound fulfillment. Now that I’ve started writing, I can’t stop, and I’m working on a sequel full of adventure and suspense which I hope to publish in 2015."
