This volume celebrates the artistic achievement of Anthony Barry who captured the spirit of his native city of Cork in a collection of photographs. The photographs in this book are drawn from an archive of 7000 pictures which portray life in Cork in the 1950s and 60s. Over 20 years, during his leisure time, he walked around Cork with his Leica and Rolliflex and took pictures of every aspect of the city. This collection contains images of women chatting, children, dogs, bicycles, old men, ships, water and buildings. It is a stark reminder of how much Cork and Ireland have changed in only 30 years. His pictures capture the fashions and style of the 50s and 60s, the slower pace of life, and the simplicity which dominated people's lives at a time when fax machines and the Internet were inconceivable.
