McCarthy Ciarán

Ciarán McCarthy sustained an incomplete spinal cord injury in 2002 following a rugby tackle that went wrong and his opponent fell on top of him. Ciarán's debut book, 'I Will Walk Alone' was published in 2016 and vividly outlines his 2002 decision to overcome his paraplegia and walk again, along with the aftermath to that decision. In the years since, Ciarán and others with life-altering spinal-cord injuries have worked alongside RCSI researchers bringing invaluable personal insights to studies investigating new treatments for spinal cord injury.
