Arthur Pearson

Arthur Pearson (1891-1963) and his son Gordon (1919-2006) were from an English Quaker family that settled in Ireland at the end of the nineteenth century, setting up the steelworks of Smith and Pearson. As Quakers and committed to peace, they were faced with a problem with the outbreak of the two world wars. Both wanted to make a contribution to the alleviation of suffering caused by war, and both therefore became involved with the Friends Ambulance Unit.
